Scope and Content
The sous-fonds consists of the records of the Asian Department area divisions which were responsible for analyzing economies and economic policies of member countries. Each area division had responsibility for keeping abreast of developments in the countries they covered, such as financial and political situations, and noting the affects of these issues on IMF policies.
The organization of the divisions changed from time to time in order to balance work demands as new member countries from the Asian region joined the IMF. Regardless of these transitions, the records generated by the staff often remained consistent. However, there are exceptions where senior staff relocations resulted in records being transferred to other divisions.
The sous-fonds is arranged in six series of division subject files, chronological files and country files. The chronological files consist of records maintained by division chiefs and senior staff and document the routine activities of the divisions. There are gaps in the division subject files but these may be filled by examining records across the divisions. The country files series refers to specific matters pertaining to member countries including consultations, missions, and files on country-specific topics.
