  • Scope and Content
Series consists primarily of outgoing letters and memoranda sent by Joseph Gold in his capacity as Counsellor, Deputy Counsellor and later General Counsel of the Legal Department. Topics of interest include: gold collateral transactions under Article V; repurchase obligations; Sterling devaluation (1951); interpretation of the Articles of Agreement; the Per Jacobsson Memorial Foundation (1963); Cuba’s membership withdrawal from the IMF (1963-64); and, the effect of China’s large quotas on elections of Executive Directors, and that country’s participation in the UN framework (1970-74). The correspondence is arranged in reverse chronological order. Each page is numbered, and generally goes in sequence from the highest number (most recent) to the lowest number (least recent); however, there are some instances in which the numbers have been filed out of sequence. This occurs when the number does not correspond with the date of the document and the original creator/filer chose to file according to date rather than number.
