- Scope and ContentSeries consists of correspondence, reports, briefing papers, raw data, notes, and other research material maintained by the Government Expenditure Analysis Division (FADGE), relating to its duties in carrying out research studies to support IMF missions, assessing government expenditure policies in member countries, and compiling fiscal data, Includes files relating to the Baker Country Expenditure Studies which was an analysis of medium-term expenditure, based on the Baker list of five countries, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria and Sri Lanka. From these studies, the Division produced brief fiscal policy options papers which were not intended to be issued as a formal document, but to serve as an extended memorandum for files and as background material for FAD staff working on the various Baker countries. Series also contains complete set of FAD Working Papers authored by FADGE and other FAD staff, 1971-1983 and Social Expenditure Project files 1984-1987, maintained by Peter S. Heller relating to the Executive Board-initiated study on long-term trends of social expenditure in the Group of Seven countries. The files were eventually presented as FAD Working Papers (i.e. Social Expenditure Developments in Italy and Social Expenditure Outlook 1986-2025), however the correspondence and data contained within the files provide insight into the development of this significant study and the information gathering involved.
