The Balance of Payments Country files documents an accumulation of basic data reflecting issues experienced by member countries when compiling balance of payments information. The statistics, routinely submitted to the IMF, were used for comparative purposes and analyses. This series primarily contains correspondence between the IMF and member countries identifying balance of payments correspondents, official offices of contact, and related queries., The IMF staff provided guidelines to new techniques of measurement which member countries were expected to follow when collecting statistical information. The files document dialogue between IMF and member countries. Both IMF and member countries were in agreement to final proofs before statistics were published. Technical assistance was also offered by the IMF to countries in preparation and/or presentation of statistics in accordance with the established guidelines., The files contain correspondence, cables, statistical data, and survelliance reports. Files are also arranged alphabetically by country and documents within each file are in reverse chronological order.
