- Archival historyCountry Files were initially created and kept by the Fiscal Review Division (FADFV) and transferred to the newly established Fiscal Operations Division I and II after FADFV ceased to exist in 1991. The Fiscal Operations Divisions, which were split among geographical lines, presumably maintained files together in a central location prior to their transfer to the Archives and this original order was maintained in the archival arrangement and description of the files. An earlier accession of Country Files transferred to the Archives in 1990 by FADFV were also integrated.

- Scope and ContentSeries contains records maintained by the Fiscal Operations Divisions I and II and previously by their predecessor, Fiscal Review Division. The functions of the defunct Fiscal Review Division, notably to coordinate and provide guidance to FAD economists participating in area department missions and review program and surveillance papers, were inherited by the Fiscal Operations upon its formation in 1991. Records are arranged alphabetically by country and consist of: Division staff’s comments regarding IMF briefing papers, staff reports and letters of intent; some original memos to file and outgoing memos to FADAI Director or officers and other departments' staff regarding FAD participation in missions (mostly Article IV or VIII consultation missions, stand-by reviews, USF); some copies of reports with annotated notes; back-to-office reports; data tables (including FAD mission data); occasionally original letters from country officials; newspaper clippings; and supporting external documents. Notable topics found within the Country Files include: Egypt fiscal data and projections for the 1980s, Extended Fund Facility arrangement, and the Division’s response to Use of Fund Resources missions to Egypt; Gambia and Kenya fiscal data and projections; Morocco government finance statistics and medium-term framework on Baker Initiative; Nigeria public finance scenario figures and factors of fiscal deficit in Sri Lanka. The earliest records in the series, dating from 1964-1965 when FAD was established, were created and/or accumulated by Budget Division Chief Gustaaf W. van der Feltz among others.
